Not knowing anything about ffmpeg, and very little about video editing in general, I naively tried ffmpeg -i VTS_01_1.VOB -c copy -aspect 4:3 test.vob, but the resulting test.vob file still shows an incorrect (i.e. I'm wondering if there's a way that I can use ffmpeg to correct the aspect ratio in the VOB files, without having to re-encode the video (as I assume that would incur some loss of quality)? Most DVD players and applications seem to ignore this and play the video correctly, but some applications aren't so forgiving, and I'd like to fix the VOB files. On one of the DVD's, the aspect ratio is incorrect. I have some old videos that were converted from a camcorder to DVD years ago. I appreciate any input / recommendations for getting those.

vob to pro res files.Īnyway - in case anyone might've recommended that route - no go for me and current system config. This MPEG Streamclip program, when compatible, is apparently able to convert.
#FFMPEGX VOB FREE#
I also tried using FREE MPEG Streamclip and purchased the required MPEG 2 Playback Component from the Apple Store today to make Streamclip work (this strategy from online recommendations) and found out the Playback Component isn't compatible with my OS (latest Mountain Lion). My attempt at MOV was too compressed and low quality. However, I need to get these converted for high quality edit in FCP.

vob files from the DVD that can be played using VLS, etc. I've used AVS Video Converter and have high-quality. I'm working on a project from a backup footage done for me erroneously in a DVD format. Hello - thanks in advance for any light shed on this question.
